norway-- for the first time, we are hearing how long people were terrorized by a gunman at a youth camp in norway, as the death toll rises. and new information on the bomb the suspect set off before the shooting rampage. ♪ go to rehab, i say no, no, no. >> she summed up her own career in a single song. tonight, trouble pop-singing diva amy winehouse is dead. short meetings and bickering in washington over the debt ceiling. and still no deal. why there is a rush to have it settled by 1:00 tomorrow afternoon. good evening, i'm ann notarangelo. the death toll is now up to at least 92. one day after twin attacks in

norway. and we're hearing about a delayed police response that allowed for a full hour and a half of terror at a youth camp. the shooting massacre on the island followed what is being called an oklahoma city type bombing in oslo. randall pinkston joins us tonight from oslo. randall? >> reporter: there are new details being revealed about the accused gunman. principally that he rented a farm that allowed him to obtain 6,000 tons of fertilizer. the fertilizer that authorities believe was used in part to construct that powerful bomb that went off just a few blocks from here. police say the gunman at norway's youth camp had 90 minutes to attack before a s.w.a.t. team arrived. at least 84 people were killed. >> they ran out. and he just would shoot them. >> reporter: shaken survivors recall their desperate effort to get away from the man dressed as a policeman. some dove into icy waters,

trying to swim away. others hid behind rocks. adrian plaquen was wounded in the shoulder. >> i was lying perfectly still and someone fell down so i hid behind. >> reporter: when policemen finally arrived the gunman reportedly gave up without a struggle. >> i tried to save people but there were people dead i couldn't do anything for. >> reporter: police say the suspect, a 32-year-old norwegian man, is also responsible for a powerful car bomb near a government building in central oslo. authorities say the explosion, which killed at least seven people, was caused by an oklahoma city type bomb, made of fertilizer and diesel fuel. a few blocks from the blast zone, oslo's central cathedral has been a focal point for the outpouring of the nation's grief. throughout the day, a steady stream of people entered the sanctuary to light candles and to pray. outside, this woman was one of dozens who brought flowers. >> i'm very sad for all of the

other people who lost their children. >> reporter: the alleged shooter was talking with police, but investigators say they don't know why he unleashed these two deadly attacks on their normally peaceful country. norway, of course, has one of the most -- has a reputation as being one of the most peaceful countries in the world. police here for example do not carry weapons but after yesterday's heinous attacks, government officials say no matter what, they're not going to change norway's values. reporting from oslo, randall pinkston, back to you, ann. >> you said more information is coming out about the suspect. there are some reports that say he has actually confessed. do you know if that is true or not? >> reporter: there is a statement credited to his attorney that says -- it is not a full confession. but he acknowledges to being present and acknowledges to the deeds that were done on the

island and the city. but he doesn't say that he actually killed people. i think there may be some legal reasoning behind that. not really sure. but the attorney has made what amounts to a confession, but it is not a legal full confession. >> randall pinkston in norway, thank you very much. well, five-time grammy award winner amy winehouse is dead at the age of 27. ♪ they will make me go to rehab and i said no, no, no. >> the bee hive, tattoo, singer song writer 2007 album back to black blasted the soulful british artist into the stratosphere but also that year, drugs ravaged her body and at one time hospitalized for an overdose of cocaine and tranquilizers and ecstasy and alcohol. >> the saddest part about it as soon as amy winehouse broke on the scene she was as famous for

her truly amazing music as she was for the spectacle of her -- the demons that plagued her. >> her performances became sham bling stumbling train wrecks watched around the world on the internet. she canceled her european tour last month after swaying and slurring her way through barely recognizable songs, and was booed off the stage. winehouse was found dead in her london flat today. the cause of death is still unknown. with just 10 days left to reach an agreement on the debt limit, leaders of both parties are working through the weekend in an effort to hammer out a deal. danielle notingham is in washington with the latest. hi, danielle. >> reporter: hi, ann. and will is no time to play with -- there is no time to play with here. the president wanted to start fresh today, and he told the two top democrats and the two top republicans they need to sit down together and work out something that congress can start moving on at the start of the week. president obama called congressional leaders to the white house for an emergency

meeting, a day after debt talks collapsed with house speaker john bohner. the talks lasted less than an hour and did not produce an immediate solution. both sides say they are committed to working on a bipartisan proposal to save the u.s. from its first government default in history. president obama used his weekly radio address to urge lawmakers to put their differences aside quickly. >> we can strengthen our economy and leave for our children a more secure future. or we can issue insults and demands and ultimatums at each other, withdraw to our partisan corners, and achieve nothing. >> reporter: a week of negotiations ended dramatically friday, when bohner broke off private talks with the president, in a dispute over taxes. the two were working on a deal that made cuts to domestic spending, social security, medicare, and medicaid, and included $1.2 trillion in new tax revenue. bohner said the original

agreement was for $800 billion in revenues so he called off negotiations. >> the white house moved the goal post. >> reporter: he told his party in a conference call saturday afternoon that congressional leaders should have a new deficit plan to present to their party in the next 24 hours. the house and the senate are not back in session until monday. so the talks will have to continue behind closed doors for the weekend, with just 10 days left until the august 2 deadline. danielle notingham. now, republicans who were on that conference call say that bohner wants to have this deal together by 4:00 eastern time. on sunday. so it won't disrupt the u.s. markets here. he is hoping to get a jump on the asian markets to avoid a trickle-down effect here, when the stock market opens monday. they want to make sure everyone still has confidence that the u.s. will meet the deadline. live in washington, danielle notingham, now back to you, ann. >> danielle, thank you very much. well, here in the bay area, many who could be affected by the government's lack of action

expressed their concerns. and anne makovec got an earful at a town hall meeting in the east bay. >> well, it is very frustrating. they're not being honest with the american people. >> until robin hood shows up, we have politicians trying to hammer out a deal. and the rest of us waiting for word. >> i'm going to be 62 in august. >> reporter: nervous about the effects on government programs. >> there is a lot of people living on social security and that's all they have. >> i feel as if all of our representatives in congress are essentially addicted to money. and they're not aware of the actual impact on real people of their positions. >> reporter: congressman pete stark held this town hall meeting in almeda to answer people's concerns, and share his own. >> i think people are jockeying for structure, stature, they want to be the ones who have written, including the president, the definitive answer to how we're going to solve

these budget problems, and i don't think there is a definitive answer. >> reporter: even though there is a fair amount of cynicism out there, most people we spoke with were confident that some sort of deal could be reached by august 2. >> i think you will find, as the hours get late, that they're going to compromise on a deal that may not be everybody's dream, but it should go to reforming government, because otherwise, we're going to be doing this every year for a decade. >> reporter: in almeda, anne makovec, cbs 5. new details on the attack on giants fan bryan stow. how police say the beating was much more brutal than previously believed. it won't create a shortage of wine, but an accident that prevents a million dollars worth of shiraz from getting to the united states. fog kept our coastal temperatures in check. warmer tomorrow. i will have the details in a few minutes. ,,,,,,

court documents filed by two new suspects include the injuries in gruesome detail. the two were arrested in san bernardino on thursday. the complaint describes how the assailant cut stow's eye, lip, ear, nose and tongue and he is still hospitalized in serious condition at san francisco general hospital. an 11-year-old girl is fighting for her life tonight after being hit by a stray bullet. it happened around 11:15 last night in san francisco's western addition. police say a group of young men were arguing when one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire. one of the bullets went through a window in an apartment building and struck the girl who was at a sleepover at her cousin's home. two suspects were arrested today. walnut creek firefighters still try to figure out what sparked last night's fire at a retirement community. flames damaged or destroyed eight apartments in the rossmoore community. 13 people evacuated safely. and it took firefighters about an hour to contain the fire.

but smoke sphould -- smoldered long after that. firefighters worked through the night to put out all of the hot spots. sunday is hand holding day at the contemporary jewish museum in san francisco. it is in response to an incident in which a security guard told a lesbian couple holding hands was not allowed. it happened last weekend when the couple was attending an exhibit with the famous lesbian art collector gertrude stein. the museum says the policy is not theirs. >> and it includes entertainment from the lesbian gay chorus and freedom band, of san francisco. an unfortunate accident in australia will affect the united states. one million dollars worth of wine headed here destroyed. the wine bottles got smashed in a forklift accident. the forklift was loading a 13-ton container of wine at a port for shipment, when it

than castro valley. this well, the event was more like the castro than castro valley. hundreds of people in almeda county celebrated the first ever castro valley pride rally and it attracted a handful of protesters but that did not seem to dampen the spirit of diversity. three teens started organizing the rally three months ago to help others feel free to express their sexuality. jim bernard in here and were you talking about the cool weekend we are having but there is a warm up? >> a warmup coming our way. a little bit tomorrow. more next week. back to more near normal temperatures next weekend. 90s across the interior. we're getting ahead of ourselves here. we're not due there yet. a little warmup tomorrow. a couple of degrees.

nothing dramatic. sunshine around the bay as the fog plunged to the coastline and pretty stubborn. wouldn't leave and it hasn't left yet. this is a pretty extensive fog bank and due to a feature that you might be able to pick in here. an eddie kept the fog blewed to the shoreline through the day and i was looked for more of a clearing this morning but it didn't materialize and as a result temperatures still slightly cooler for this time of the year. today's high checked in like this here, as we look around the bay, mid to upper 80s, about as expected across the interior and cooler back toward the beaches and north bay in the mid to low 70s and east bay mid to low 70s with the mid 60s on the peninsula. and we can expect a couple of degrees added on to this for tomorrow as we will see a slight warmup. still the fog is likely to be slow to clear and look for midday clearing tomorrow which is a little on the late side for this time of the year. and mostly sunny inland. and slightly warmer there. morning fog giving way to the afternoon sunshine. at the coast. and we will probably stay mostly

foggy along the beach, much like today where the fog continues to linger through the afternoon hours. the cooldown headed our way coming the beginning of the week. for tomorrow, we will see again a clearing, as a brief period of high pressure settles in across the area. but as i mentioned, it will be brief. cooler air headed our way for early in the week. as the low clouds and fog will continue. with slightly warmer afternoon temperatures here. and as we take a look at our seven-day forecast, you will see that gradual cooldown here. into the beginning of the week. through midweek. and then we reverse that trend, and warm things back up to near normal, come next weekend which will put us back in the mid to low 90s. which is where we ought to be for this time of the year. as again we have been in a relatively cool pattern here, of late. and as we check in for the ball game forecast here, for tonight, we will look for clear to partly cloudy, and through about the 5th inning. then temperatures should be in the low 60s here to start the game off in a few minutes. if it hasn't already. >> and kim will pick up where you left off, talking about baseball. >> yes, she is. >> i would rather go to the game

best rain dance. it was only 93 degrees at first pitch today. after triple digits last night. third inning, yankees up 1-0. josh willingham has a two-run shot off of aj burnette to give the a's the lead. number 13 for willingham. weeks is showing no signs of cooling off. a two-out single. and weeks is hitting .452 since the all-star break. bottom of the 6th, nick swisher burns his old team for the second day in a row. a solo shot into the second deck off rich harden. 12th of the year for swisher. but the a's got the run back in the 7th. former yankees hideki matsui knows all about the short in right and hits one into the front row, career homer 501 for matsui. 4-2a's. final chance for the yankees. tying run on third for robinson cano. but the homerun champion grounds out weakly to third to end the game. the a's hang on 4-3 and end the

11-game losing streak against the yankees. the yankees averaged over seven runs per game during the 11-game winning streak, but today, the a's held them to just three. they will have a lance to win the series tomorrow, with geo gonzalez on the mound. the brewers are in town this weekend for a three-game series with the giants and it appears all is forgiven with first baseman prince fielder. late in 2009, fielder angered the giants with his walk-off celebration where his teammates went down like bowling pins when he hit the plate. then in last year's spring training, barry zito through a field ner retaliation, but everybody played nice last week at the all-star game. and if the giants get back to the world series, they will have fielder to thank for home field advantage. >> 72 rbis. we didn't even score that many
